CUT YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREES NORTH OF CHICAGO IN McHENRY COUNTY -- 2008

Happy Holidays, 2008!

In our November greetings of 2006 we mentioned the impact which the drought years of 2004 and 2005 had on our tree crop. Despite being open fewer weekends in both 2006 and 2007, our inventory of harvestable trees remains low. Therefore, this year we will be open only two weekends: Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 29 and 30 (NOT on Friday after Thanksgiving Day), and the following Saturday and Sunday Dec. 6 and Dec. 7.

The good news is that the thousands of seedlings which we planted each of the the past three springs survived vey well because of the ample and well-timed summer rains. Even though it takes several years to grow a cuttable tree, we look forward to a steady replenishment of our harvestable inventory.

We wish you a very merry and meaningful Christmas!

Our trees are organically grown and pruned by hand.

10 % of  tree sales is donated to the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, (formerly McHenry County Defenders). Members of the Defenders are the volunteer workers during Christmas tree sales.

Tractor-drawn wagon rides to and from the pines, tree shaking and baling, hot coffee and cocoa in the warming house, are included at no extra charge.  Hand saws are also provided, or bring your own (no chain saws or axes, please). Handcrafted holiday items are available for sale in the warming house. A donation may be made for pre-cut evergreen boughs and cones.  If you bring your dog, please keep it on a leash while you are here.

Whether or not you've cut a live Christmas tree before, we recommend you read Tips for Cutting Your Own Tree. You might like to print out our  map to Pioneer Tree Farm (which also has all pertinent information).  Google Maps will give you driving directions and maps as well.
