CUT YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREES NORTH OF CHICAGO IN McHENRY COUNTY -- 2011

Happy Holidays, 2011!

If you are new to Pioneer Tree Farm you need to know that we raise our trees organically, and use no pesticides as we contend with weeds and other tree pests. Our motivation is love of nature -- trees, wildlife, weather, the land -- and what we sell is an experience, not the "perfect tree".

Our old customers know about our four bleak years of planting (2002-2005) from which we are still recovering. It takes at least six years to grow a harvestable tree. Because our inventory of these cuttable trees is still somewhat low, we will be open only two weekends again this season: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 25, 26, and 27) and the following Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 3 and 4).

However, everything else is pretty much like old times, and as you walk around looking for your tree, you will see acres of thriving young ones. We hope you will also see some wildlife, enjoy the country air, and share your experience with other friendly people!

Our trees are organically grown and pruned by hand.

10 % of  tree sales is donated to the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County. Many members of the Defenders are volunteer workers during Christmas tree sales.

Tractor-drawn wagon rides to and from the pines, tree shaking and baling, hot coffee and cocoa in the warming house, are included at no extra charge.  Hand saws are also provided, or bring your own (no chain saws or axes, please). Handcrafted holiday items are available for sale in the warming house.  If you bring your dog, please keep it on a leash while you are here, and do not bring it into the Warming House.

Whether or not you've cut a live Christmas tree before, we recommend you read Tips for Cutting Your Own Tree. You might like to print out our  map to Pioneer Tree Farm (which also has pertinent information).  Google Maps will give you driving directions and maps as well.
